The repair, polishing and restoration of antique metal items - mostly brass, copper, bronze and spelter.
Restoration work usually begins with a thorough, sensitive cleaning of the item which should reveal all defects and blemishes.
This is often carried out after the object is dismantled, which enables comprehensive cleaning of all parts and surfaces.
Repairs can then be performed as required. Repairs can include casting new parts for the object, "chasing" or adding detail to the surface of an item where it may have been lost through casting or repair.
Bronzes can have their surface finish repaired or restored by the process of patination. Some items may be regilded and polished, if this is suitable for the object.
